The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. They have won 16 NBA championships, the second most in NBA history. Their home games are played at Staples Center. According to Forbes, they have an estimated value of $1 billion, which makes them the second most valuable NBA franchise. The Lakers still hold the record for NBA’s longest winning streak of 33 straight games that was set during the 1972 NBA season.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jr. was the face and superstar player of the “Showtime” LA Lakers in the 1980s. Most considered him the greatest Laker of all-time. He is a five-time NBA champion, three-time NBA Finals MVP, and a winner of three NBA MVP Awards. Magic Johnson was so great that in Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals, he recorded 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals in a 123–107 win, while playing guard, forward, and center at different times during the game. Johnson became the only rookie to win the NBA Finals MVP award, and his clutch performance is still regarded as one of the finest in NBA history. Magic made the teammates around him better than what they actually were. He is the greatest point guard in NBA history.
Kareem Abdul – Jabbar
Kareem Abdul – Jabbar is widely considered the greatest basketball player by his peers. He is a six-time NBA champion, six-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a record 19-time NBA All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. His trademark “skyhook” shot was unstoppable, which established him as a prolific scorer. He remains the all-time leading scorer in the NBA with 38,387 career points.
Kobe Bryant is the greatest basketball player of his generation. A great shooting guard, he is the only NBA player often compared to Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant is a 16-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. He led the NBA in scoring on two occasions and won five NBA championships. Kobe is also the all-time leading scorer in Lakers franchise history.
Elgin Baylor was one of the greatest small forwards ever. For nearly two decades, he fascinated Lakers fans with his athleticism, hanging jump shots, and all-around game on the basketball court. A gifted shooter, great rebounder, and an exceptional passer in NBA history, Elgin Baylor was the 1959 NBA Rookie of the Year and an 11-time NBA All-Star.
Pau Gasol won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010 with the LA Lakers. A skilled big man, Paul Gasol is a four-time All-Star, and a three-time All-NBA selection, once on the second team and twice on the third team. He also earned NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2002 with the Memphis Grizzlies, the only non-American NBA player to win that award.
