Derek Jeter takes his rightful place among New York Yankees greats

“Everyone comes to this city with dreams of being No. 1. You showed me that being No. 2 was more than enough… In those difficult moments – those moments that feel unique to New York – you always showed me a sign.” – Derek Jeter

Today, on Mother’s Day, New York Yankees great Derek Jeter ’s uniform number 2 will be officially retired by the organization. It was meant 2 be for this amazing baseball player. Not only was Derek Jeter the greatest Yankee of my generation, but the most recognizable star on the greatest sports dynasty of the last four decades. “The Captain” did an exceptional job representing that role for baseball’s most celebrated franchise by playing the game of baseball the right way and winning when it really counted. Derek Jeter will never be forgotten. He is an icon in New York City!

A plaque honoring “The Captain” Jerek Jeter, who owns five World Series rings, multiple team records and an indelible place in Yankees history, will join the upper echelon of Yankees greats such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Mario Rivera and Yogi Berra in Monument Park.
