It has been 49 seasons since the Milwaukee Bucks last won an NBA championship. Now, they are the NBA world champions for the first time in 50 years. They ended their championship drought in style last night on July 20, 2021. The two-time league MVP and Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, 26, had 50 points and 14 rebounds as Milwaukee closed out the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. It was the most points scored in a closeout game in NBA Finals history. Giannis took home the Finals MVP trophy, capping off his unexpected rise as a little-known prospect to an NBA champion. This was an inspirational victory not only for the Bucks organization, but for Giannis who won a championship without joining forces with the top players of the NBA.

“Most of all, the title culminates a remarkable journey that started in the modest Athens neighborhood of Sepolia as the child of Nigerian immigrants. A child whose first love was soccer, Antetokounmpo didn’t start playing basketball until he was 12 years old and competed in Greece’s second-tier league just one season before he landed in Milwaukee as the No. 15 pick in the 2013 draft — an obscure prospect scouted by only a handful of NBA teams. Eight years later, he’s a champion.” — ESPN

Giannis Antetokounmpo took a victory lap today to Chick-fil-A, where he ordered 50 Chick-n-Minis to celebrate scoring 50 points in the Bucks’ closeout game. “This is a free promo right here, but it is what it is,” He said on Instagram Live, as he pulled up to the drive-thru.

He recorded from the passenger seat, as he held his Finals MVP trophy from Tuesday’s game in his lap, with the team’s championship trophy on the floorboard between his legs. “I’m here with my babies,” Giannis Antetokounmpo jested, pointing the camera at the golden trophies. “I’ve got to return the trophy to the team, I stole it,” he explained. “I stole the trophy from the organization. They’re looking for the trophy.”
